Accredited Family Mediation Solicitor
Mediation involves a trained, neutral, impartial third-party using special skills to resolve a dispute, whether or not the parties have already commenced litigation.
Mediation differs from litigation and arbitration, in which a third-party (the judge or arbitrator) makes a binding decision about a dispute and informs the parties of it.
The Family Mediation Accreditation Scheme's purpose is to ensure that the legal profession and the public can easily identify solicitors and legal executives who provide mediation services in family and matrimonial disputes.
Family mediators may specialise in either children-only or financial-only mediation. However, scheme members have an awareness and knowledge of all family mediation issues.
Only solicitors and legal executives (ie Fellows of the Institute of Legal Executives, or FILEXs) who meet the SRA's exacting requirements are permitted to join the scheme.
When you see the Family Mediation Accreditation Scheme logo, you'll know that the practitioner's skills, knowledge and experience have been rigorously and independently assessed.
