Mohammed Amjad LLB (Hons) is a partner in DMP and specialises in all areas of immigration law and is head of our Immigration team . He has extensive experience of representing clients at all levels and is a leading expert in his field. His work was reviewed by an independent Peer Reviewer appointed by the Legal Services Commission who made the following comments regarding the quality of his work; ‘Tactical awareness and strategic thinking on cases very impressive….Clearly a highly efficient and incisive lawyer who quickly identified the issues in a case’
Notable cases that Mohammed has been involved in include Mugisha v SSHD [2005] EWHC 2720 (Admin) (conspicuous unfairness resulting from Secretary of State’s failure to apply a policy); R (Straka) v IAT [2002] EWHC 1981 Admin (The relevance of mental illness to the question of internal flight); NM (what constitutes “leading an independent life” ) Zimbabwe [2007] UKAIT 00051; SB (Bangladesh) [2007] EWCA Civ 28 (factors a tribunal ought to take into account in considering an appeal under Article 8, right to family life).
As well as receiving instructions from individuals, Mohammed is also instructed by businesses (eg. regarding work permits) and local authorities on behalf of children in care, with immigration issues. Mohammed is engaged as a Peer Reviewer by the Legal Services Commission and is Trustee of two organisations involved in working with immigrants and asylum seekers. He is also regularly involved in discussion and advice programs on national TV regarding immigration issues.
